White Siderite and Calcite from the Herja Mine in Romania

SKU: S_00119

Specimen from the historic Romanian Herja mine, showcasing a distinctive and classic paragenesis for this deposit. On the matrix, which is densely covered with a fine, shiny layer of brown siderite, large, milky white calcite crystals have formed. They exhibit a tabular habit and grow on top of each other, creating a spatial, cascading composition. Main Features: classic European location; large, tabular calcite crystals; strong color and structural contrast. Condition: Good. The main calcite crystals have a clear morphology and a nice, pearly-glassy luster. Due to the natural, perfect cleavage of calcite, numerous fractures are visible inside the crystals, and there are minor, localized chips on their sharp edges.
