This specimen represents spessartine on rhyolite from the well-known American locality Ruby Mountain in Nathrop, Colorado. Two dark red, almost black spessartine crystals with smooth faces and a strong glassy luster have formed on the light, porous volcanic rock. The dominant, larger crystal is located at the top of the specimen, creating a distinct contrast with the beige-gray color of the host rock, while the smaller one is embedded in a groove on the side. Main features: dark red color of the crystals; strong glassy luster of the faces; light, porous rhyolitic matrix. Condition: Very good.
