Diagnostic features
## Identification Identification of titantaramellite is possible almost exclusively using advanced analytical methods, such as X-ray spectroscopy (EDS/WDS) to confirm its chemical composition (presence of barium, titanium, boron, and silicon) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) to determine its crystal structure. Visually, it is practically indistinguishable from other similar, fine-grained, brown minerals. ## Distinguishing from Similar Minerals It can be confused with other minerals from the taramellite group, such as taramellite or nagashimalite, as well as other rare titanosilicates. Definitive differentiation requires specialized chemical and structural analysis. ## Crystal Forms It forms elongated, prismatic crystals with a nearly square cross-section. These crystals often occur as radial or disordered clusters and aggregates embedded in the host rock.
Geological environment
## Genesis It is a hydrothermal mineral associated with alkaline rocks. At its type locality (Inagli massif in Russia), it occurs in aegirine-microcline veins cutting pulaskites (alkaline nepheline syenites). ## Mineral Associations This mineral co-occurs with minerals such as microcline, aegirine, quartz, batisite, shcherbakovite, anatase, and titanite. ## Localities The only confirmed and well-documented occurrence of titantaramellite in the world is its type locality: the Inagli alkaline massif, Aldan Shield, Yakutia, Russia.

## Quality Criteria The quality of a titantaramellite specimen is primarily determined by the abundance and size of the crystals on the rock matrix. Since the crystals are microscopic, specimens with clearly visible, well-formed, radial aggregates are most valued. Color contrast with the surrounding rock (e.g., light microcline) also enhances aesthetic value.
Care and storage
## Cleaning Due to the extreme rarity and small size of the crystals, mechanical cleaning of specimens is not recommended. Any contaminants should be left undisturbed to avoid damaging the delicate crystals. If cleaning is absolutely necessary, compressed air can be used to remove dust. ## What to Avoid Contact with chemicals, acids, and ultrasound should be avoided. The mineral is brittle, so it should be protected from impacts and vibrations. It should not be heated or exposed to sudden temperature changes. ## Storage Titantaramellite specimens, typically in the form of micromounts, should be stored under stable conditions, in sealed "micromount" boxes that protect them from dust, moisture, and mechanical damage.
