Siligiite is an extremely rare, hydrated zinc lead sulfate, forming colorless, hexagonal crystals with a platy habit.

Diagnostic features
## Identification Identification of Siligiite is only possible using advanced analytical methods, such as Raman spectroscopy and powder (PXRD) or single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Visually, in the field or in a collection, it is practically impossible to distinguish from other secondary sulfates without specialized equipment. Characteristic features include colorless, hexagonal crystals in rosette-like aggregates. ## Distinguishing from similar minerals It can be confused with other secondary zinc sulfates, such as namuwite or gypsum. Namuwite crystallizes in the trigonal system and has a different composition. Gypsum is much softer and forms crystals of different morphology. Definitive distinction requires chemical and structural analysis. ## Crystal forms Siligiite forms thin, platy crystals with a hexagonal outline. These crystals rarely occur individually, most often combining into rosette-like or nearly spherical aggregates up to 0.3 mm in diameter.
Geological environment
## Genesis Siligiite is a secondary mineral that forms as a result of weathering (oxidation) processes of polymetallic sulfide deposits. It forms under low-temperature conditions on mine dumps and in old mine workings, due to the reaction of percolating waters with primary minerals such as sphalerite and galena. ## Mineral associations At the type locality (Banská Štiavnica), it co-occurs with other secondary sulfates, such as anglesite, gypsum, hydrozincite, namuwite, and with remnants of primary minerals like sphalerite, galena, and pyrite. ## Localities The only confirmed occurrence of Siligiite in the world is its type locality – the ore mine dump in Banská Štiavnica, Banská Bystrica Region, Slovakia.

## Quality criteria As a microscopic mineral ("micromount"), its collector value depends on the quality and richness of crystal aggregates on the rock matrix. The most desirable specimens are those with well-formed, sharp, and clearly visible crystal rosettes under magnification. The aesthetic composition with associated minerals is also important. ## Popular localities The only source of specimens is the type locality in Slovakia, which makes every specimen originating from there unique.
Care and storage
## Cleaning Specimens should be handled with utmost care. Due to their microscopic size and fragility, mechanical cleaning is not recommended. If necessary, compressed air (from a safe distance) can be used to remove loose dust particles. Avoid contact with water, as the mineral is soluble in it. ## What to avoid Absolutely avoid contact with water, acids, and other chemicals that could damage or dissolve it. Store away from heat and moisture sources. Specimens are brittle and sensitive to shocks. ## Storage It is recommended to store specimens in original, stable "micromount" containers to protect them from mechanical damage, dust, and humidity changes. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight, although there is no evidence of its negative impact.
