Rongibbsite is an extremely rare lead, aluminum, and silicon mineral, discovered in the Kombat mine in Namibia, forming microscopic, colorless crystals.

Diagnostic features
## Identification Identification of rongibbsite is impossible without advanced analytical techniques, such as Raman spectroscopy or chemical analysis using an electron microprobe (EDS/WDS). Visually, at the type locality, it appears as microscopic, colorless, bladed crystals forming small, radial aggregates on other minerals. ## Distinguishing from Similar Minerals At first glance, it may be confused with other microscopic silicates or sulfates found in similar parageneses, such as anglesite or hemimorphite. Definitive differentiation requires specialized laboratory tests to confirm its unique chemical composition (presence of Pb, Al, and Si) and crystal structure. ## Crystal Forms Crystals are very small, with a maximum length of up to 40 µm and a thickness of up to 5 µm. They adopt a tabular or bladed, often flattened, form. They usually form small, radial or stellate aggregates, and also occur as single, scattered crystals on the surface of the host rock.
Geological environment
## Genesis Rongibbsite is a secondary mineral that formed in the oxidation zone of a polymetallic (copper-lead) deposit in the Kombat mine. It crystallized at low temperatures in vugs and fissures within the ore, likely as a result of the reaction of hydrothermal solutions with primary minerals. ## Mineral Associations At the type locality, rongibbsite co-occurs with minerals such as quartz, barite, hematite, galena, chalcocite, mimetite, anglesite, leadhillite, as well as other rare lead minerals, e.g., queitite and kombatite. ## Localities The only confirmed locality for rongibbsite in the world is its type locality – the Kombat mine, in the Grootfontein district, Otjozondjupa region, Namibia.

## Quality Criteria The quality of rongibbsite specimens is primarily assessed based on the richness and size of crystal aggregates on the rock matrix. The most desirable specimens are those with clearly visible, though still microscopic, radial clusters of colorless crystals, contrasting well with the substrate. Association with other rare minerals from this locality is also important. ## Popular Localities All known collector specimens come from a single location in the world: the Kombat mine in Namibia. This is the only source of this mineral, which makes each specimen from this locality unique.
Care and storage
## Cleaning Due to the microscopic size and fragility of the crystals, mechanical cleaning is not recommended and can lead to the destruction of the specimen. If cleaning is absolutely necessary, only use compressed air from a safe distance to remove dust. ## What to Avoid Avoid contact with all chemicals, acids, and detergents. Do not subject samples to ultrasound. The mineral is susceptible to mechanical damage, so avoid touching and rubbing the surface on which it occurs. ## Storage Rongibbsite specimens should be stored under stable conditions, in sealed "micromount" boxes, to protect them from dust, moisture, and physical damage. Avoid exposure to vibrations and shocks.
