Ramsbeckite is a rare, secondary copper mineral with a characteristic blue-green color, most often forming crusts and rosette aggregates.

## Characteristics Ramsbeckite is a hydrated copper hydroxyl sulfate, occurring in the oxidation zones of copper ore deposits. It forms very small, bladed or tabular crystals, which most often coalesce into rosette-like or spherical aggregates. It frequently occurs as thin crusts and coatings on host rocks. Due to the small size of the crystals, its features are difficult to observe with the naked eye. ## Physical Properties Ramsbeckite crystals exhibit a vitreous luster. This mineral is translucent. Its Mohs hardness is approximately 2.5, making it a soft mineral. The density is significantly higher than average, at about 3.86 g/cm³. ## Colors and Varieties Ramsbeckite has a characteristic, vivid, blue-green to emerald-green color. No color or commercial varieties are distinguished. ## History and Name The mineral was first described in 1986. Its name comes from its type locality – a mine near the town of Ramsbeck in the Sauerland region of Germany. It was approved by the International Mineralogical Association (IMA) in 1985. ## Uses Ramsbeckite has no industrial application. It is solely a mineral of scientific and collector's interest, sought after by advanced collectors of rare minerals.
