## Identification Amateur identification of radvaniceite is impossible. Characteristic features include its unique occurrence environment (burning coal dumps), metallic luster, lamellar form, and extreme rarity. Definitive identification requires advanced analytical methods, such as X-ray diffraction (XRD) and chemical microanalysis (EDS), which confirm the presence of germanium and sulfur. ## Distinguishing from Similar Minerals At first glance, it may resemble other lamellar minerals with a metallic luster, such as molybdenite or graphite. Differentiation without specialized equipment is unfeasible. The key diagnostic feature is its chemical composition. ## Crystal Forms Radvaniceite occurs as very thin, flexible flakes and lamellae, which combine into small, often radial aggregates.
Geological environment
## Genesis Radvaniceite forms in a very specific environment, as a sublimation product from fumarolic gases on burning coal dumps. It crystallizes at temperatures from 100 to 600°C under anaerobic or low-oxygen conditions. ## Mineral Associations This mineral occurs in association with native sulfur and a rare, as yet unnamed Ge-S-O phase. ## Localities The only confirmed locality in the world is its type locality – the dump of the former Kateřina coal mine in Radvanice, Hradec Králové Region, Czech Republic.

## Quality Criteria As an extremely rare micromineral, every analytically confirmed specimen is valuable. The highest-rated specimens are rich aggregates of well-formed, metallic flakes, ideally contrasting with the rock matrix or co-occurring with crystalline sulfur. ## Popular Localities The only source of specimens is the type locality in the Czech Republic, making them extremely difficult to acquire.
Care and storage
## Cleaning Radvaniceite specimens are extremely small and delicate. Wet cleaning should be avoided. Any dust can be removed very carefully with a soft brush or a stream of compressed air from a distance. ## What to Avoid The mineral should be protected from moisture, chemicals, and all cleaning agents. As a sulfide, it may be susceptible to oxidation in a humid environment. Contact with water and sudden temperature changes should be avoided. ## Storage It is recommended to store specimens only in specialized, sealed micromineral boxes, in a dry and stable environment, away from direct light and dust.
