Paratimroseite is a very rare lead copper tellurate, forming microscopic, platy crystals of an intense green color.

## Characteristics Paratimroseite is a hydrated lead copper tellurate, occurring as extremely small, platy or bladed crystals, rarely exceeding 0.2 mm in length. It forms rosetted or radial aggregates, and also appears as thin coatings and earthy masses. Its most characteristic feature is its intense, emerald-green color. ## Physical Properties Paratimroseite crystals exhibit a vitreous luster. Due to the microscopic size of the crystals, most physical properties, such as hardness or density, have not been precisely determined. The mineral is brittle. ## Colors and Varieties The main and only observed color of paratimroseite is emerald-green. No varieties have been distinguished. ## History and Name The mineral was discovered in the Baker mine in San Bernardino County, California (USA) and officially recognized by the International Mineralogical Association (IMA) in 2011 (IMA2011-024). Its name refers to its structural and chemical similarity to timroseite, with the prefix "para-" indicating polymorphism – both minerals have the same chemical composition but differ in crystal structure (paratimroseite is monoclinic, and timroseite is triclinic). ## Uses Paratimroseite has no industrial application. Its significance is purely scientific and collectible, as a very rare and recently discovered mineral species.

## Genesis Paratimroseite is a secondary mineral, formed in the oxidation zones (gossans) of ore deposits rich in tellurium. It forms as a result of the weathering of primary tellurides and sulfides under low temperature and pressure conditions, in the presence of oxygen-rich waters. ## Mineral Associations At its type locality (Baker mine, California), paratimroseite co-occurs with many other rare secondary minerals, such as timroseite, cerussite, chlorargyrite, bromargyrite, chrysocolla, hematite, jarosite, munakataite, ottoite, parakhinite, phosphohedyphane, pyromorphite, plumbogummite, quetzalcoatlite, and wulfenite. It often grows on quartz. ## Localities The only confirmed and described locality for paratimroseite worldwide is its discovery site – the Baker mine, Silver Lake District, San Bernardino County, California, USA.
