Diagnostic features
## Identification Key diagnostic features include: blue-green color, tabular crystal habit, formation of rosette aggregates, good cleavage, and a specific occurrence environment (nepheline-syenite pegmatites). ## Distinguishing from similar minerals It can be confused with other rare phosphates from Khibiny, but its unique habit, color, and co-occurring minerals (such as villiaumite or lomonosovite) aid in identification. ## Crystal forms It forms thin, tabular crystals with a hexagonal outline. These crystals often intergrow into radial or rosette-like aggregates. It also occurs as granular masses.
Geological environment
## Genesis Olgite crystallizes in the late stages of pegmatitic processes within alkaline nepheline-syenite massifs. ## Mineral associations It most commonly co-occurs with minerals typical of this environment, such as aegirine, nepheline, sodalite, lomonosovite, eudialyte, and villiaumite. ## Localities The only confirmed and most important locality for olgite in the world is its type locality - the Khibiny Massif on the Kola Peninsula in Russia.

## Quality criteria The most highly valued specimens are those with well-formed, sharp crystals forming aesthetic rosettes. The intensity of the blue-green color and the size of the crystals significantly increase their value. Association with other rare minerals from Khibiny is also important. ## Popular localities All collector specimens come from various pegmatites within the Khibiny Massif in Russia, e.g., from Mount Koashva or Yukspor.
Care and storage
## Cleaning Dry cleaning is recommended, using a soft brush or compressed air. Contact with water, especially with acids, can damage the surface. ## What to avoid Avoid ultrasonic cleaners, steam cleaners, and all chemicals. The mineral is relatively soft and brittle, sensitive to scratches and impacts. ## Storage Specimens should be stored in separate, padded boxes, away from harder minerals. Protect from dust and sudden temperature changes.
