## Identification Identification of mummeite based on visual characteristics is practically impossible. It is recognized by its metallic luster, steel-gray color, and occurrence in association with other bismuth sulfosalts in skarns. Definitive identification requires advanced analytical methods, such as X-ray microanalysis (EDS/WDS), to determine the precise chemical composition. ## Distinguishing from Similar Minerals Mummeite is visually indistinguishable from many other sulfosalts with similar composition and appearance, such as gustavite, lillianite, heyrovskýite, or other members of the lillianite group. The differences between them lie in subtle changes in the proportions of metals (Ag, Cu, Pb, Bi), which can only be determined in the laboratory. ## Crystal Forms It forms fine, anhedral grains or elongated, bladed crystals up to 0.5 mm in size. It often occurs as complex intergrowths with other ore minerals.
Geological environment
## Genesis Mummeite forms under hydrothermal conditions in skarn-type deposits. It is a product of metasomatic processes occurring at the contact of magmatic intrusions with carbonate rocks. ## Mineral Associations This mineral co-occurs with other bismuth sulfosalts (e.g., heyrovskýite, gustavite, pavonite), native bismuth, cosalite, galena, chalcopyrite, sphalerite, and skarn minerals such as pyroxenes and garnets. ## Localities The most important and confirmed occurrences of this mineral worldwide are: - "Old Mine" in Băița Bihor (Rézbánya), Bihor County, Romania (type locality). - Gladhammar mines, Västervik Municipality, Småland, Sweden. - Ikuno Mine, Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan.
