Its complex chemical structure is typical for minerals of this group, containing sodium, calcium, iron, zirconium, and silicon. ## Physical Properties The Mohs hardness of mogovidite is approximately 5. The mineral is characterized by a vitreous luster and a white streak. It is brittle, and its fracture is uneven. It does not exhibit cleavage. ## Colors and Varieties The mineral is colorless or has a pale yellow tint. No distinct varieties have been identified. ## History and Name The name mogovidite comes from its discovery locality – the Mogovid massif in the Gissar Mountains, Tajikistan. It was described as a new mineral species in 2007 by a team of mineralogists, including Igor V. Pekov. ## Applications Due to its extreme rarity and microscopic size, mogovidite has no practical or commercial applications. It is solely an object of scientific interest and a prize for specialized collectors of systematic minerals.

Visually, it is indistinguishable from many other colorless, granular minerals. ## Distinguishing from Similar Minerals It can be confused with other minerals from the eudialyte group or common rock-forming minerals such as quartz or feldspars if they occur as fine grains. Definitive differentiation requires specialized equipment. ## Crystal Forms Mogovidite forms only anhedral (unformed) grains of irregular shape, embedded in the rock.

Geological environment

## Genesis Mogovidite forms in highly differentiated, alkaline magmatic intrusions, particularly in agpaitic pegmatites, which are extremely saturated with sodium and rare elements. ## Mineral Associations It co-occurs with other minerals typical of this environment, such as eudialyte, microcline, aegirine, nepheline, lorenzenite, and quartz. ## Localities The only confirmed locality of mogovidite in the world is its type locality – the Mogovid massif in the Gissar Mountains, Tajikistan.

The size or "quality" of the grains is irrelevant, as they are microscopic. The value of a specimen lies in its authenticity and connection to the type locality. ## Popular Localities The only source of specimens is the type locality in Tajikistan.

Care and storage

## Cleaning Due to its microscopic size and occurrence as inclusions within the host rock, individual grains are not subject to cleaning. When cleaning an entire rock specimen, only compressed air should be used to remove dust. ## What to Avoid Avoid contact with all chemicals, acids, and ultrasonic cleaners, which could damage both the mineral itself and the host rock. ## Storage Specimens containing mogovidite should be stored in stable conditions, in closed "micromount" boxes, to protect them from dust and mechanical damage. Shocks and vibrations should be avoided.
