Diagnostic features
## Identification Identification of kribergite is almost exclusively possible using advanced analytical methods, such as X-ray diffraction (XRD) and chemical analysis (EDS/WDS). Visually, it is a white, earthy coating, indistinguishable from many other secondary minerals. ## Distinguishing from Similar Minerals It can be confused with other white, earthy weathering products, such as evansite, wavellite, warringtonite, or various clay minerals (e.g., kaolinite). Certain distinction without specialized equipment is impossible. ## Crystal Forms Kribergite forms microscopic, bladed or platy crystals, which combine into very fine-grained, earthy or powdery aggregates and coatings.
Geological environment
## Genesis It is a secondary mineral, forming in the oxidation zones of sulfide deposits, especially in the presence of rocks rich in aluminum and phosphate minerals (e.g., apatite). It forms as a result of weathering of primary ore minerals and surrounding rocks under low temperature and pressure conditions. ## Mineral Associations It co-occurs with other secondary minerals, such as faustite, warringtonite, chalcocite, tennantite, pyrite, quartz, apatite, and iron oxides. ## Localities In addition to the type locality in the Kristineberg mine in Sweden, its occurrence has also been confirmed in the Sítio do Castelo mine in Portugal.

## Quality Criteria Kribergite is a mineral of interest mainly to collectors specializing in rare, systematic minerals or "micromount" specimens. The value of a specimen depends on the confirmation of its identity by analytical methods and on the richness and aesthetics of associated minerals. Kribergite itself does not form visually attractive shapes.
Care and storage
## Cleaning Kribergite specimens are generally not cleaned due to their extreme delicacy and microscopic nature. Any attempt at mechanical cleaning or using liquids will almost certainly destroy the sample. Specimens should be protected from dust. ## What to Avoid Avoid contact with water and any chemicals. The mineral is sensitive to shocks, touch, and changes in humidity. It should not be heated or exposed to direct sunlight. ## Storage Kribergite requires storage under stable conditions, preferably in a tightly sealed, transparent "micromount" box, which protects it from dust, humidity, and mechanical damage. Any direct physical contact can destroy the delicate aggregates.
