Diagnostic features
## Identification Identification of kampfite is primarily based on its unique appearance – small, colorless to pale green, tabular crystals forming rosette-like aggregates. However, the identification of the locality is crucial, as it occurs in only one place in the world. Final confirmation requires advanced analytical methods, such as X-ray diffraction (XRD). ## Distinguishing from Similar Minerals It can be confused with other rare silicates from the same locality, such as traskite or walstromite. Distinguishing it with the naked eye is practically impossible and requires laboratory analysis. ## Crystal Forms Kampfite forms thin, tabular or bladed crystals with a hexagonal outline. These crystals often arrange themselves into rosette-like or radial aggregates.
Geological environment
## Genesis Kampfite forms as a result of metamorphic processes within sanbornite-quartz rocks (metacherts). Its formation is associated with barium metasomatism under conditions of contact metamorphism, in the contact zone of granitic intrusions with sedimentary rocks. ## Mineral Associations This mineral coexists with other rare barium minerals, such as sanbornite, quartz, gillespite, celsian, diopside, titanite, tourmaline, alforsite, traskite, and walstromite. ## Localities The only confirmed occurrence of kampfite in the world is the Big Creek (Esquire #1) deposit, located in Fresno County, California, USA. This is its type locality.

Care and storage
## Cleaning Kampfite specimens should be cleaned with the utmost care, using compressed air to remove dust. Due to its brittleness and small crystal size, contact with water and brushes should be avoided. ## What to Avoid All chemicals should be avoided, especially acids, which can react with carbonates in its structure. The mineral is brittle and sensitive to mechanical damage. It should not be heated or exposed to sudden temperature changes. ## Storage Kampfite specimens, as microminerals, are best stored in specialized "micromount" boxes, which protect them from dust, shocks, and mechanical damage.
