Diagnostic features
## Identification Iwanyukite-K is relatively easy to identify visually within its typical locality. Characteristic, bright yellow, spherical aggregates with a radially fibrous structure, occurring in voids in the host rock, are its main distinguishing feature. ## Differentiation from Similar Minerals At first glance, it may resemble other secondary titanium minerals of yellow color, but its unique form of spherical aggregates and specific occurrence environment (fissures in ultra-alkaline pegmatites) allow for its differentiation. Confirmation requires advanced analytical methods (XRD, EDS). ## Crystal Forms The mineral forms spherical or hemispherical aggregates up to 1 mm in diameter. These aggregates are composed of very fine, flexible fibers or lamellae arranged radially from the center. It is not observed in the form of single, well-formed crystals.
Geological environment
## Genesis Iwanyukite-K is a secondary mineral, formed as a result of hydrothermal processes in the late stages of crystallization of ultra-alkaline pegmatites. It forms in voids and fissures, often on the surface of other, earlier crystallized minerals. ## Mineral Associations This mineral co-occurs with a rich assemblage of minerals typical for alkaline massifs. In its immediate vicinity are, among others, lorenzenite, eudialyte, lomonosovite, lamprophyllite, as well as other rare titanosilicates from the iwanyukite group (iwanyukite-Na, iwanyukite-Cu). ## Localities The only confirmed occurrence of iwanyukite-K in the world is its type locality - Mount Koashva within the Khibiny Alkaline Massif on the Kola Peninsula in Russia.

## Quality Criteria The most prized iwanyukite-K specimens are those with numerous, well-formed and undamaged spherical aggregates of intense, bright yellow color. Contrast with the host rock minerals, e.g., white lorenzenite, is important. Due to the microscopic size of the aggregates, specimens are usually small and intended for collectors specializing in rare minerals (so-called "micromounts"). ## Popular Localities All collector material comes from a single location in the world - Mount Koashva on the Kola Peninsula in Russia. Specimens from this locality are considered exemplary.
Care and storage
## Cleaning Iwanyukite-K aggregates are delicate and may be sensitive to water. For dust removal, it is best to use a soft brush or compressed air from a safe distance. Ultrasonic cleaners and chemical cleaning should be avoided. ## What to Avoid The mineral is unstable in water and can undergo rehydration or dehydration, leading to its destruction. Contact with water, acids, and other chemicals must be strictly avoided. It should also be protected from high temperatures and direct sunlight, which can cause changes in its structure. ## Storage Specimens should be stored in a dry, stable environment, preferably in tightly sealed collector boxes (so-called "membrane boxes") or capsules away from sources of moisture. Due to its fragility, it should be avoided to place it in locations exposed to shocks or vibrations.
