Its name honors Carlo Maria Gramaccioli (born 1935), an Italian professor of physical chemistry at the University of Milan, a renowned mineral collector, and author of publications on Alpine minerals. The suffix "-(Y)" in the name indicates the dominance of yttrium (Y) in a specific site within its crystal structure. The type locality is Pizzo Cervandone (Scherbadung) in Italy, on the border with Switzerland. ## Uses Gramaccioliite-(Y) has no industrial applications. Its significance is purely scientific and collectible.

## Genesis Gramaccioliite-(Y) is a hydrothermal mineral, associated with regional metamorphism processes under amphibolite facies conditions. It forms in open fractures and vugs in gneisses and pegmatites, crystallizing from solutions rich in titanium, iron, lead, and rare earth elements, particularly yttrium. ## Mineral Associations This mineral co-occurs with a number of other minerals typical of Alpine-type cleft veins. At the type locality, it was found in association with quartz, hematite, rutile, anatase, brookite, cassiterite, as well as rarer minerals such as synchysite-(Y), chernovite-(Y), and senaite. ## Localities Confirmed occurrences of Gramaccioliite-(Y) are extremely rare. Besides the type locality in Pizzo Cervandone (Val Devero, Italy), it has been identified in the nearby Kriegalp valley (Binn, Switzerland). These are the only known and verified localities for this mineral worldwide.

The aesthetics of the overall composition and the absence of damage are also important. ## Popular Localities The only source of collectible specimens is the border region between Italy and Switzerland, specifically Pizzo Cervandone and the Binn valley. Specimens from these localities are highly sought after by collectors specializing in systematic minerals and Alpine minerals.
