Visual identification is impossible due to its microscopic size and lack of characteristic macroscopic features. ## Distinguishing from Similar Minerals It can be confused with other rare titanosilicates found in the same environment, such as tienshanite, baratovite, or tadzhikite-(Ce). Differentiation requires precise chemical analysis, as all these minerals can form similar, small crystals. ## Crystal Forms It forms elongated, prismatic crystals with a nearly rectangular cross-section. Crystals occur as single, isolated individuals within the host rock.
Geological environment
## Genesis This mineral formed under conditions of contact metamorphism. It occurs in syenite pegmatites or in marbles (metamorphosed limestones) at the contact with nepheline syenite intrusions. This environment is rich in rare earth elements, titanium, barium, and fluorine. ## Mineral Associations At the type locality (Darai-Pioz Glacier), it co-occurs with quartz, microcline, aegirine, polylithionite, leucosphenite, turkestanite, baratovite, and reedmergnerite. ## Localities The only confirmed occurrence of dutkiewiczite-(Ce) in the world is its type locality – the Darai-Pioz Glacier massif in the Alai Mountains, Tajikistan. This is one of the world's most renowned sites for rare minerals.
