Diagnostic features
## Identification Identification of dovyrenite is possible only through advanced analytical methods, such as X-ray spectroscopy (EDS/WDS) to confirm its chemical composition (presence of calcium, zirconium, and silicon) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) to determine its crystal structure. Visually, at the occurrence site, it can be suspected based on the characteristic form of tabular crystals and its association with other skarn minerals. ## Differentiation from similar minerals Visually, it can be indistinguishable from many other colorless or light silicates occurring in similar environments, such as wollastonite, diopside, or other minerals from the vesuvianite group. Definitive differentiation requires specialized studies. ## Crystal forms It forms very small, thin, tabular or platy crystals, flattened along one of the crystallographic axes. These crystals often combine into radial or bladed aggregates.
Geological environment
## Genesis Dovyrenite is a mineral of metamorphic origin. It forms in contact zones, in magnesian skarns, which developed as a result of contact metamorphism of carbonate rocks (dolomites) under the influence of ultramafic intrusions. ## Mineral associations It coexists with minerals typical of this environment, such as calcite, dolomite, spinel, forsterite, diopside, as well as minerals from the humite and serpentine groups. At the type locality, it was found in association with fluoborite, geikielite, and perovskite. ## Localities The only confirmed occurrence of dovyrenite in the world is its type locality – the Dovyren intrusion in the Baikal Mountains, Buryatia, Russia.

## Quality criteria For such a rare mineral, the only criterion is its confirmed presence on the specimen itself. The value of a specimen increases with the size and quality of the crystals, although even the best ones remain microscopic. The most desirable specimens are those where dovyrenite crystals are well-isolated, undamaged, and visible under low magnification, preferably in association with other rare minerals from that locality. ## Popular localities The only source of specimens is the Dovyren massif in Russia. Material from this location is extremely difficult to obtain and appears on the collector's market very sporadically, mainly through specialized dealers and micromineral collectors.
Care and storage
## Cleaning Due to their microscopic size and fragility, dovyrenite specimens are practically not subject to cleaning. If they are in "micromount" containers, only the cleanliness of the box itself should be maintained. Any attempt at mechanical cleaning risks irreversible destruction of the crystals. ## What to avoid Avoid contact with any chemicals, ultrasound, and sudden temperature changes. Specimens must not be touched, and even a stronger gust of air can damage the delicate crystals. ## Storage Dovyrenite must be stored in specialized, sealed micromount boxes, which protect it from dust, moisture, and mechanical damage. Display is only possible under a microscope.
