A very rare silicate from the beryllinite group, discovered in Russia, forming tiny, brown crystals in pegmatites.

## Characteristics Diversilite-(Ce) is an extremely rare mineral from the beryllinite group, forming very small, tabular or platy crystals, usually not exceeding 0.2 mm in length. These crystals often occur as radial or chaotically arranged aggregates. Due to the small size of the crystals, its visual features are difficult to observe with the naked eye and require magnification. ## Physical Properties Diversilite-(Ce) crystals exhibit a vitreous luster. This mineral is brittle, and its Mohs hardness is approximately 5. The density calculated based on the chemical formula and unit cell parameters is 3.96 g/cm³. ## Colors and Varieties Diversilite-(Ce) is light brown to brown in color. No pleochroism has been observed. No varieties are known. ## History and Name The mineral was discovered in a syenite pegmatite in the Lovozero Massif on the Kola Peninsula, Russia. Its name comes from the Latin word *diversus* meaning "different" or "diverse," referring to its distinct properties compared to other known titanosilicate minerals. The "-Ce" suffix indicates cerium as the dominant rare earth element in its structure. It was approved by the International Mineralogical Association (IMA) in 2010 under number 2010-015. The holotype (type material) is stored at the A.E. Fersman Mineralogical Museum in Moscow. ## Applications Due to its extreme rarity and microscopic crystal sizes, diversilite-(Ce) has no practical or commercial applications. It is of purely scientific interest and is an object of interest for specialized micromineral collectors.

Visual identification in the field or even in a collection is impossible. ## Distinguishing from Similar Minerals Due to its appearance and co-occurrence, it can be confused with other rare minerals from the Lovozero Massif, such as lomonosovite, vuonnemite, or epistolite. Differentiation requires specialized chemical analysis, especially to confirm the presence of barium, cerium, and sodium in appropriate proportions. ## Crystal Forms It forms very small, thin, tabular or platy crystals, which often combine into radial or randomly oriented aggregates.

Geological environment

## Genesis Diversilite-(Ce) is a mineral of magmatic origin, crystallizing in the late stages of evolution of highly differentiated, alkaline syenite pegmatites. It forms in an environment rich in sodium, barium, titanium, and rare earth elements. ## Mineral Associations At the type locality (Lovozero Massif), it co-occurs with minerals such as microcline, nepheline, aegirine, lorenzenite, eudialyte, lomonosovite, vuonnemite, villiaumite, and umbite. ## Localities The only confirmed occurrence of diversilite-(Ce) in the world is its type locality – the Shomiokitovoye pegmatite in the Lovozero Massif on the Kola Peninsula in the Murmansk Oblast, Russia.

## Quality Criteria The quality of a diversilite-(Ce) specimen is primarily assessed based on the richness and quantity of microscopic crystals on the rock matrix. Association with other rare minerals from this locality is also important. ## Market Prices Specimens are available exclusively on the specialized micromineral market. Prices for a small rock fragment with confirmed presence of diversilite-(Ce) can range from several tens to several hundreds of dollars, depending on the quality and richness of the aggregates. ## Popular Localities The only source of specimens is the Shomiokitovoye pegmatite in the Lovozero Massif in Russia. Specimens from this specific pegmatite vein are the only authentic ones on the market.

Care and storage

## Cleaning Due to its extreme rarity and fragility, specimens of diversilite-(Ce) should not be cleaned mechanically or chemically. Any treatment may damage the microscopic crystals. If absolutely necessary, compressed air can be used from a safe distance to remove loose dust particles. ## What to Avoid Avoid contact with all chemicals, acids, and bases. Do not subject it to ultrasonic cleaning. Protect it from shocks, scratches, and sudden temperature changes. ## Storage Specimens should be stored exclusively in specialized micromineral boxes (so-called micromounts), which protect them from mechanical damage and dust. Avoid direct exposure to sunlight, although there is no data on its light sensitivity.
