Chivruaiite is an extremely rare mineral from the silicate group, discovered in Russia, forming unique, fibrous aggregates of white color with a pearly luster.

## Characteristics Chivruaiite is a complex, hydrated calcium, titanium, and niobium silicate, belonging to the umbofite group. It occurs as aggregates of fine, flexible fibers and needles, which form spherulitic or radial aggregates. Individual fibers can reach up to 1 cm in length. The mineral is white, sometimes with a creamy tint, and its aggregates are characterized by a silky or pearly luster. ## Physical Properties Chivruaiite has a hardness of approximately 3 on the Mohs scale. It is a light mineral, with a density of 2.55 g/cm³. Its fibers are flexible. It is translucent, and in thin fibers, almost transparent. ## Colors and Varieties This mineral is known exclusively in one color variety – white, sometimes with a delicate creamy or yellowish tint. ## History and Name The mineral's name comes from its discovery location – Chivruai Pass (Чивруай) in the Lovozero Massif on the Kola Peninsula in Russia. It was approved as a new mineral species by the International Mineralogical Association (IMA) in 2006 (IMA2006-034). It was described by a team of mineralogists: V.N. Yakovenchuk, G.Y. Ivanyuk, Y.P. Men'shikov, S.V. Krivovichev, Y.A. Pakhomovsky, and P.M. Kartashov. ## Applications Due to its extreme rarity, chivruaiite has no industrial applications. It is solely an object of scientific interest and constitutes a valuable and sought-after unique specimen in advanced systematic and regional mineral collections.

## Genesis Chivruaiite is a hydrothermal mineral. It forms in the late stages of crystallization in pegmatites and hydrothermal veins cutting nepheline syenites within alkaline massifs. ## Mineral Associations This mineral co-occurs with a wide range of other minerals typical of the Lovozero and Khibiny massifs. It is most often accompanied by: aegirine, natrolite, analcime, microcline, lorenzenite, eudialyte, vinogradovite, as well as other rare titanium and niobium minerals. ## Localities The only confirmed locality of chivruaiite in the world is its type locality – Chivruai Pass in the Lovozero Massif on the Kola Peninsula in Russia.

Care and storage

## Cleaning Chivruaiite specimens are extremely delicate. They should only be cleaned with compressed air from a safe distance to remove dust.
