## Identification Amateur identification of biachellaite is practically impossible. Indicative features may include the hexagonal outline of the crystals, their colorless nature, and their occurrence in a specific geological environment – volcanic products from Lazio, Italy. Definitive identification requires advanced analytical techniques, such as X-ray diffraction (XRD) and chemical analysis (EDS/WDS), to distinguish it from other similar minerals. ## Distinguishing from Similar Minerals Biachellaite is visually indistinguishable from other colorless minerals of the cancrinite and sodalite groups, such as cancrinite, vishnevite, or microsommite, which may occur in the same environment. The differences lie in subtle variations in chemical composition (especially sulfate and hydroxyl group content) and crystal structure parameters, which can only be determined in a laboratory. ## Crystal Forms Biachellaite forms short, prismatic crystals with a hexagonal cross-section. The crystals are often terminated by pyramid faces. They occur as single, isolated individuals or small groups grown on the rock matrix.
Geological environment
## Genesis Biachellaite forms under specific conditions of alkaline volcanism. It crystallizes at high temperatures within sanidinite volcanic bombs (xenoliths), ejected during pyroclastic eruptions. This environment is rich in alkalis and silica-undersaturated. ## Mineral Associations This mineral co-occurs with other minerals typical of this environment. At the type locality, it was found in association with sanidine, andradite, diopside, fluorite, as well as other feldspathoids, such as haüyne and leucite. ## Localities The only confirmed occurrence of biachellaite in the world is its type locality: Valle Biachella, Sacrofano, in the province of Rome, Lazio region, Italy. All known specimens originate from this single location.

## Quality Criteria The collectible value of biachellaite specimens, as a micromineral, depends on several factors. The most important is the perfection and sharpness of the hexagonal crystal habit. Specimens with well-formed, transparent crystals that are clearly exposed on the rock matrix are highly prized. The presence of other rare associated minerals on the same specimen also enhances its attractiveness. Crystal size, even if submillimeter, is also important – the larger the crystal, the more valuable the specimen. ## Popular Localities All biachellaite specimens on the collector's market come from a single location – the type locality in the Biachella Valley, Italy. This is the only source of this mineral.
Care and storage
## Cleaning Biachellaite specimens are typically microscopic crystals on a delicate rock matrix. For this reason, any mechanical cleaning that could irrevocably damage or detach the crystals is discouraged. Cleaning in ultrasonic cleaners is absolutely forbidden. If dust needs to be removed, a photographic air blower can be used to dislodge loose particles. ## What to Avoid Avoid contact with acids, which can react with the mineral. Due to the presence of water in its structure, it should not be heated. Its hardness (5.5) makes it susceptible to scratching by harder minerals (e.g., quartz), so contact with them should be avoided. Protect the specimen from shocks and drops. ## Storage The safest storage method is to place the specimen in a sealed, padded "micromount" box. This protects the delicate crystals from dust, moisture, and mechanical damage. Each specimen should be properly labeled with its name and locality.
