Baiamareite is a rare lead-silver antimony sulfosalt of the owyheeite group, occurring as microscopic inclusions in quartz ore veins.

Diagnostic features
## Identification Identification of baiamareite is possible only through advanced laboratory methods, such as electron microprobe analysis (EDS/WDS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Visually, under a microscope, it appears as steel-gray, metallic, lamellar or acicular inclusions within a quartz matrix. ## Distinguishing from similar minerals Under the microscope, baiamareite is practically indistinguishable from other lead and antimony sulfosalts, such as owyheeite, jamesonite, boulangerite, or zinkenite, which often coexist with it and have a similar appearance. Definitive differentiation requires specialized chemical analysis. ## Crystal forms Baiamareite forms very small, lamellar or acicular crystals, usually up to 0.2 mm long and up to 0.02 mm thick. They occur as individual inclusions or irregular aggregates within quartz.
Geological environment
## Genesis Baiamareite is a hydrothermal mineral. It forms in low-temperature, polymetallic ore veins, where it crystallizes along with other sulfosalts within a quartz matrix. ## Mineral associations This mineral occurs in direct association with other sulfosalts. In the type locality, its coexistence with owyheeite, semseyite, fizélyite, jamesonite, boulangerite, as well as with pyrite, sphalerite, galena, chalcopyrite, and quartz has been observed. ## Localities The only confirmed and described occurrence of baiamareite in the world is its type locality: the Penig vein, within the Herja deposit, in the Baia Mare region, Maramureș County, Romania.

## Quality criteria The quality of a baiamareite specimen is assessed solely based on the quality of the research that confirmed its presence. Since the mineral is invisible to the naked eye, its collector's value lies in possessing a documented fragment from the type locality, preferably with an accompanying analysis or electron microscope photograph. Such specimens are primarily of interest to scientific institutions and highly specialized collectors (so-called "micromounters" or systematic mineral collectors). ## Popular localities The only source of specimens is the historic Herja deposit in Romania. The material for research, on which the mineral was described, came from specimens historically acquired from this region.
Care and storage
## Cleaning Specimens containing baiamareite, which are typically rock fragments (most often quartz), can only be cleaned mechanically, using a soft brush to remove dust. Due to the microscopic nature of the mineral, any wet cleaning should be avoided, as it could damage delicate inclusions or surrounding minerals. ## What to avoid Contact with chemicals, especially acids, which can react with sulfides, must be strictly avoided. The mineral, like other sulfosalts, may be sensitive to prolonged exposure to strong light and humidity, which can lead to its slow oxidation and tarnishing. Ultrasonic cleaners should be avoided. ## Storage Specimens with baiamareite are best stored under stable conditions, in closed "micromount" boxes that protect against dust, mechanical damage, and sudden changes in humidity. Exposure should be away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
