No color varieties or commercial varieties are known. ## History and Name The mineral was officially recognized by the International Mineralogical Association (IMA) in 2020 (IMA2020-043). Its name refers to its chemical composition – the presence of silver (Latin: *argentum*) – and to its structural and chemical similarity to liveingite, another rare mineral from the same group. The type locality (the only known one) is the Lengenbach quarry in Switzerland. ## Uses Argentoliveingite has no industrial application. It is solely an object of scientific research and a valuable acquisition for advanced systematic and regional collections.

All form similar, small, grey-black crystals with a metallic luster. The only method to distinguish them is chemical analysis. ## Crystal Forms Argentoliveingite forms elongated, lath-like or flattened, tabular crystals, reaching sizes up to several hundred micrometers. They often occur as oriented, parallel intergrowths.

Geological environment

## Genesis Argentoliveingite forms under hydrothermal conditions in fissures and small caverns (druses) within Triassic, crystallized dolomites (dolomitic marbles). ## Mineral Associations This mineral coexists with other rare arsenic and lead sulfosalts, characteristic of the Lengenbach deposit. Its most common associated minerals include liveingite, jentschite, hatchite, wallisite, and realgar. ## Localities The only confirmed locality of argentoliveingite in the world is the Lengenbach quarry, located in the Binn Valley (Binnatal) in the canton of Valais, Switzerland. This is a site known for the occurrence of dozens of globally unique minerals.

Care and storage

## Cleaning Argentoliveingite specimens are almost exclusively micromounts, which rarely require cleaning. If necessary, dust can be removed very gently with a soft, dry brush or a photographic air blower. All contact with water and chemical agents should be avoided. ## What to Avoid The mineral is potentially sensitive to oxidation and moisture. Exposure to direct sunlight, high temperatures, and sudden temperature changes should be avoided. Ultrasonic cleaners or any cleaning fluids must not be used. ## Storage It is recommended to store specimens under stable conditions, in closed, airtight micromount boxes, which protect against dust, moisture, and mechanical damage.
